The 45-year-old actress, who is best known for her roles in X-Men and Monster's Ball, originally dropped out of the Brad Anderson-helmed movie but has now re-signed thanks to an amended start date.
According to Associated Press, Halle will play an emergency operator faced with the task of saving a teenage girl from a disturbed killer in the film.
Anderson told The Sun: "I'm thrilled to be working with Halle on this. It's a formidable role for an equally formidable actress." Producers Robert Stein and Michael Helfant added: "Ms Berry has always been our first choice to star in The Hive."
When Berry was first linked to the project, it was tipped to be directed by Joel Schumacher.
Shooting on The Hive is scheduled to start in June in Los Angeles.
Berry's next movie is action thriller Dark Tide, in which she stars opposite real-life fiancé Olivier Martinez. He recently confirmed their rumoured engagement, saying: "Yes, of course it's true."
