'Harry Potter', Gary Oldman dominate Jameson Empire Awards

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has dominated this year's Jameson Empire Awards with three wins.

The 17th Empire Awards took place today (Sunday, March 25) with Lauren Laverne and Chris Hewitt hosting from London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

The Tomas Alfredson-directed film took home prizes for 'Best British Film', 'Best Thriller' and 'Best Actor' for Gary Oldman.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 2 won two trophies for 'Best Film' and 'Best Director' for David Yates.

Kenneth Branagh's Thor won 'Best Sci-Fi', while The Inbetweeners won 'Best Comedy'. 'Best Horror' was given to Ben Wheatley's Kill List.

Tyrannosaur's Olivia Colman won 'Best Actress', with Michael Fassbender winning the 'Empire Hero' award.

Felicity Jones was crowned 'Best Female Newcomer' for her role in Like Crazy, with Tom Hiddleston winning the 'Best Male Newcomer' award for Thor.

Ron Howard was presented with the 'Empire Inspiration' award for his contribution to film.

Empire editor Mark Dinning said of the awards: "British movies have ruled the world in the past year, and we are delighted to see them rule the roost here tonight, too. The readers of Empire are the smartest academy out there and this year they have picked the very best winners from a terrific 12 months.

"With the Olympics and Euro 2012 just around the corner, our homegrown movie heroes have tonight kicked off a year we hope is packed with British triumph."
