The lawsuit states that Williamson claims he still has ownership over a film project known as Shadows.
However, the studio insists that the writer gave up his rights to the project when he was bought out of his Scream 4 deal in 2010, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Williamson, who was tapped to write Scream 4, exited the film after getting into "a big fight" with executive producer Bob Weinstein over the movie.
However, during his time working with the studio, Williamson became involved with Shadows, and he maintains that he owns the property in spite of allegedly giving it up in the 2010 deal.
Attorney Bert Fields, who represents TWC, filed the lawsuit on Wednesday (April 4).
Williamson is currently developing a serial killer pilot starring Kevin Bacon with Fox.
