Steve Carell eyes 'Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, Very Bad Day'

Steve Carell is in early discussions to star in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

20th Century Fox is planning a live action adaptation of Judith Viorst's 1972 children's book, reports Deadline.

The book centres around a young boy named Alexander who wakes up to find that the chewing gum he took to bed has got stuck in his hair.

His day proceeds to get progressively worse from that point on.

Carell is in line to play Alexander's father Ben in the movie

Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids are Alright) is attached to direct from the script she wrote with Rob Lieber.

Carell will next be seen with Keira Knightley in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and alongside Jim Carrey and Olivia Wilde in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

He has also been tipped to reprise his role as Brick Tamland in the sequel to newsroom comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
