The movie was announced eighteen months ago, but there is no sign of shooting beginning on the project.
Meanwhile, rival biopic Lovelace, which also charts the life of the legendary Deep Throat porn actress and stars Amanda Seyfried, has already completed shooting.
"I don't know if that's even going to go," Akerman told The Hollywood Reporter.
"Last I heard, which was just before Christmas, we were supposed to start shooting in March, and now it's April. It's been one of those doomed films that I absolutely love and totally believe in.
"I love the script, I think it's such a well-written script about the behind-the-scenes of a battered woman."
The Watchmen actress attributed financial issues to the film's stunted progress.
Akerman replaced Lindsay Lohan, who was originally cast in the starring role on Inferno.
