The currently untitled project has been written by Jonze, who is best known for work on films including Where the Wild Things Are and Being John Malkovich. It tells the story of a man who falls in love with the voice of his computer.

Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Samantha Morton are also tipped to star.

Mara rose to fame with her Oscar-nominated role as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's version of Stieg Larsson crime novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The 27-year-old is currently filming a Steven Soderbergh directed thriller titled The Bitter Pill, also starring Jude Law.
