'Avengers' Mark Ruffalo: 'Incredible Hulk was unusual role for me'

By
Mark Ruffalo has described his role as The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers as "unusual".

The actor explained that he signed on for The Avengers particularly because he identified with scientist-turned-superhero Bruce Banner.

"For me, this isn't usually the type of movie I've been in, or that I've been invited to do," Ruffalo admitted, reports Flicks and Bits. "[Hulk] was the one character, other than Wolverine, that I actually thought I can do well."

Ruffalo also credited Robert Downey Jr's performance in Iron Man with giving him the confidence to play a superhero.

"I was also really excited because of what I'd seen Marvel do with Iron Man and with Robert Downey Jr, who's a great actor - he's one of my 'hero actors'," the star said.

"When I saw what he did, I feel like he recreated the genre a little bit, I felt like, 'Hey, I could fit into that world'."

Downey Jr recently praised Ruffalo's Avengers casting, saying that the actor is the "perfect" Hulk.

The Avengers is now playing in UK cinemas (as Marvel Avengers Assemble) and opens May 4 in the US.
