The actor directs and stars in the 1979-set drama, which will be released on September 14, 2012.
The political drama centres around the rescue of six US diplomats from Tehran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.
The US and Canadian governments came up with the story that the diplomats were actually members of a camera crew who were scouting for a fictional movie titled Argo in order to rescue them from their embassy in Iran.
The full details of the operation were not made public for several decades. It has been adapted from an article featured in Wired magazine.
Featuring an ensemble cast, Affleck is joined by the likes of Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Taylor Schilling, Tate Donovan, Kyle Chandler, Alan Arkin and Titus Welliver.
Ben Affleck plays former CIA agent Tony Mendez in the project. It is his first directorial film since 2010's critically-acclaimed The Town.
