According to Variety, John Travolta is still lined up to play the villainous JR Ewing, but the rest of the characters will be recast. Director Gurinder Chadha, of Bend It Like Beckham fame, is still attached and has been instructed to lower the budget by opting for lesser profile actors to fill the vacated roles.

Luke Wilson, Shirley MacLaine and Jennifer Lopez were all due to star in Dallasbut have now left the project, which was originally slated to begin shooting in November.

New Regency Productions are now planning to begin filming in January, with a representative clarifying: "We are moving forward with the project."
