The 20-year-old actress can regularly be seen in ABC Family drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but rose to worldwide fame for her turn as George Clooney's teenage daughter in last year's The Descendants.
Woodley told WWD: "I'd rather at this point do a small scene in a Meryl Streep movie than do the lead of a super action hero movie.
"I really respond to human scripts, scripts that are raw and real and risky. I love playing scary characters - not horror film scary, but vulnerable scary."
Woodley, who attended the Women in Film celebration at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, said that she wants to be able to act as long as she can.
"I would love to act for the rest of my life, but I also know that it could be taken away in a day," she explained. "It's something I've always loved, but it's nothing I've ever revolved my entire life around. I have many other passions as well."
