Oliver Stone is to make a movie about the American-led invasion of Afghanistan.
Paramount Pictures, which is developing the film with the director, confirmed the news and said the rights to Jawbreaker, a book about the war, had already been secured.
The work is by CIA officer Gary Bernstein who led a unit in the conflict. It controversially focuses on attempts to capture Osama bin Laden and, contrary to Government claims, says he escaped troops in the Tora Bora region.
A screenplay is being produced by Cyrus Nowrasteh, who worked on a US documentary The Path to 9/11. The controversial production accused ex-President Clinton over mistakes in dealing with terrorism.
However, Stone said he wanted to "create compelling drama, not a polemic," as with recent release World Trade Centre.
No production date has so far been revealed nor any casting details.
