The Killing actor, who stars in the forthcoming reboot of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 sci-fi classic, revealed that he once was opposed to remakes.
"I used to be like 'Why are we doing a remake? What are remakes being done for?' But then, we do that all the time in the theater," Kinnaman told Collider.
"If we weren't doing remakes, nobody would know who Shakespeare was," he explained. "I'm not saying that RoboCop is Shakespeare, but it's a way to... we're retelling. That's what we do as human beings. We retell our favourite stories."
In the same interview, Kinnaman revealed that he believes Gary Oldman deserved an Oscar for his performance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Oldman signed on to star in the movie late last month, and will portray the scientist who creates RoboCop.
Kinnaman recently insisted that his take on RoboCop will be a lot more human than the 1987 original.
