Tom Cruise to boldly go Star Trekkin'?

Tom Cruise is rumoured to be in negotiations for a role in the next Star Trek film.

The actor, reportedly a fan of the science fiction franchise, is desperate for a cameo according to Canada's TV Guide magazine. An insider told the publication: "He didn't even need to be begged to appear in it."

If Cruise does make an appearance he would be reteaming with Mission: Impossible 3 director JJ Abrams. The new Star Trek film will try to revive the franchise by telling the origins of the first Starship Enterprise crew, featuring a young Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock amongst others.
