Cohen from 'Borat' to 'Bruno'?

Sacha Baron Cohen is to bring his Bruno character to the big screen, with filming due to take place next summer.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Cohen's proposed project has sparked a fierce bidding war amongst the film studios, with Universal Pictures alleged to have offered at least $42 million for worldwide distribution rights. The film, which would feature the antics of the outrageously camp Austrian fashion show host, will be produced by Austin Powers director Jay Roach and Cohen.

Bruno will be the last in Cohen's trio of characters that featured in HBO's Da Ali G Show, following the new Borat movie and 2002's Ali G Indahouse.

However, despite intense publicity and controversy in the United States, Borat has had the number of screens on which it was due to be shown slashed from 2000 to 800. IMDB claims that officials at Twentieth Century Fox feel that middle America is largely unaware of the character.
