Earlier this month, the Up All Night star's publicist said that she would be reuniting with the cast and crew for a follow-up to the 2004 comedy.
However, Applegate told E! Online that she is still not sure if she will reprise her role as Ron Burgundy's (Will Ferrell) co-anchor Veronica Corningstone.
"I really don't know the status or if it's all going to happen," she said.
Applegate added: "Of course I would love to be there. They know that. The world knows that. Why would I not want to?
"It's the best job I've ever had - that and Sweet Charity. They know that I want to be there."
Applegate also admitted that she would even do a "walk-on" for Anchorman 2.
