Aaron Johnson has confirmed his return to Kick-Ass 2, revealing that the follow-up begins filming this autumn.

Johnson played the title character in the original 2010 action comedy based on the Mark Millar comic book of the same name.

Kick-Ass (Dave Lizewski) is a high school geek who becomes a superhero, teaming up with Chloƫ Moretz's Hit-Girl as they try to bring down a crime boss.

It was announced this year that a sequel was in the works, with Jeff Wadlow taking over Matthew Vaughn's seat as director.

Earlier this month reports emerged that original stars Johnson and Moretz were in talks to return to their roles, and now Johnson has confirmed that he has signed on to reprise his part.

He told Collider: "It's pretty much set to go, this fall. I think now Chloƫ and Chris (Mintz-Plasse) are on board. I'm certainly set up to do it. Jeff Wadlow is to direct. Yeah, I think it's going to happen."

Johnson also revealed that he has read the script for the sequel, saying that it is likely to get an R certificate, keeping the "standard... from the first film".

The 22-year-old actor will next be seen in Oliver Stone's drug thriller Savages, alongside Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro, Blake Lively and Taylor Kitsch.
