Kubrick film tops horror list

By
Stanley Kubrick's 1980s film The Shining has come top in music store HMV's horror film poll.

It came just ahead of last year's winner, The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin.

HMV DVD Catalogue manager Mark Frampton said: "In recent years we've seen a significant upsurge of interest in this genre of films, which had broadened considerably from the old Hammer horror days and is now regarded as being very cool".

John Carpenter, director of the Halloween films, had three films inside the top 50, whilst Alfred Hitchcock had two.
