Based on a memoir by Jordan Belfort, The Wolf of Wall Street is about a New York stockbroker who becomes embroiled in the dealings of the corrupt corporate banking world while dealing with drug and alcohol addiction.
Deadline reports that Robbie, best known for her role on the short-lived drama Pan Am, is in negotiations to play DiCaprio's wife in the film.
The Artist star Jean Dujardin is also in talks to join the cast of the film.
Filming on The Wolf of Wall Street begins in August in New York.
