'Halo' movie grinds to a halt

Production has been halted on the movie version of popular computer game Halo.
Despite the involvement of Lord of the Rings trilogy director Peter Jackson, the proposed movie had difficulty securing financial backing after Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox withdrew from the project.
In a joint statement, Microsoft's WingNut Films and Jackson said: "At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen".
Referring to the pre-production work as "awe-inspiring", the Jackson/Microsoft partnership claim that they have not lost hope that the film will eventually materialise: "While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait."
