Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow are working on a script for Big Beach's sci-fi movie, reports Deadline.
The film is set in the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs, which monitors the skies for signs of extraterrestrial life and will serve as the first line of communication if alien life is ever encountered.
The plot involves a shy and unassuming office worker accidentally making first contact with a beautiful woman who he must protect from dangers on Earth and beyond.
Trevorrow and Connolly said in a statement that the film "is about a pair of emotionally dysfunctional people forced into a situation beyond their control".
"This is exactly how we feel while shooting a film, which makes the support of trusted collaborators like Big Beach an absolute necessity," they continued.
The Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass-starring Safety Not Guaranteed debuted in US cinemas in June. A UK release date is yet to be set.
