Moretz stars in the titular role played by Sissy Spacek in Brian De Palma's 1976 horror classic, but claimed that she has not watched the original in preparation for her part.
"I'm not watching it in preparation for the movie, because we're doing something totally different," Moretz told Vanity Fair, "and I'm trying to bring my own take into it.
"I am changing everything about me - my hair, my look. I'm doing my own take on [the character]. The script is totally different from the [original]."
The Hugo actress went on to compare the script to Darren Aronofsky's ballet-themed drama Black Swan, and to Stephen King's original novel.
"It's more like the book. It's a more Black Swan version - it messes with your mind. You'll see things, and you don't know if you've seen them."
Julianne Moore will star alongside Moretz in the role of Carrie's mother, played memorably by Piper Laurie in the original. Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday have also been cast, with Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) helming.
Moretz has previously described the remake as "darker and more psychological".
Carrie will be released on March 15, 2013. Watch a trailer for the original film below:
