The third instalment in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise is not set to hit theatres until July 20, but it is currently heading for an enormous opening weekend, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Current estimates place The Dark Knight Rises to open above $150m, while some projections even suggest that it could approach the record set by The Avengers in May.
The Marvel superhero ensemble film opened to $207.4m in the US and recently passed $600m domestically.
The Dark Knight took in $158.4m when it opened in 2008. Its follow-up is certainly expected to exceed that tally.
Nolan's wife recently insisted that the director will never helm another Batman film following The Dark Knight Rises.
