The actor explained that the first scenes he filmed for the sequel took place on the bridge of the Enterprise, which Pine described as "overwhelming".

"The first day going back to work we did all the bridge stuff," Pine told Collider, "and that's always... Even if you're not a fan, and I was never a fan of the series... But you cannot help but step on that bridge and feel kind of overwhelmed.
"It's just the set, you're like 'God, I gotta fly this thing!'"
Star Trek 2 writer Alex Kurtzman has suggested that Kirk may not be ready to be captain.
Pine has previously described the sequel as "character-driven".

Star Trek 2 will be released on May 17, 2013.
