The director revealed that Hayek had particular ideas about her character and often refused to work until the conditions she set were put into action.
"This woman gets what she wants. She knows what she wants," Stone explained during a press conference held in Mexico City this week.
"She told everybody on the set, 'I want a blue dress. I want it to be pinned this way. I'm not going to go on the set unless my dress is right'. She was tough. And sometimes we had to wait in the sun."
Hayek recently said that she banned her young daughter Valentina from the Savages set as she felt the environment wasn't suitable for the little girl.
Stone has admitted that there were difficulties shooting the film due to production issues and attempting to accommodate the schedules of its stars.
