The Warner Bros film, starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone and Josh Brolin, is about LAPD officers battling the Mafia in 1940s Los Angeles.
Following the recent shooting at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, the studio has pulled a scene that features characters firing guns through a movie screen into the audience, reports Variety.
Gangster Squad is now planning to reshoot that particular scene.
Warner Bros had already removed the Gangster Squad trailer playing ahead of The Dark Knight Rises because it featured the scene in question.
Gangster Squad could consequently be delayed, as it is expected to come out on September 7 in the US and November 9 in the UK.
