The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon is also said to be in talks for the project, though no concrete deals have been made.
A script about the website, which was launched in 2006, will be based on the books WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World's Most Dangerous Website by Daniel Domscheit-Berg and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War On Secrecy by David Leigh and Luke Harding.
Renner, who recently starred in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, will next be seen in The Bourne Legacy opposite Rachel Weisz.
He recently signed on to star in the David O Russell drama American Bulls**t.
