The new film stars Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn as policemen fighting the mafia in 1940s Los Angeles.

Part of the movie depicts several men shooting into an audience at a cinema, a scene deemed far too reminiscent of the recent shootings during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises.

Trailers for Gangster Squad ahead of The Dark Knight Rises have been pulled, as well as television spots.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that bosses are looking at several factors concerning the film, including possible planned reshoots.

Gangster Squad was originally scheduled for release in September. However, executives at Warner Bros are now thought to be considering a release date of January 11, 2013.
