The film was shelved following Phoenix's death in 1993, but as was reported last year, director George Sluizer has now completed work on it.
Dark Blood, which stars Phoenix as a young widower living on a nuclear testing site in the desert, will premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival in September, according to The Hollywood Reporter
His character Boy begins an affair with a traveller (Judy Davis) as he awaits the end of the world. Jonathan Pryce and Karen Black co-star in the thriller.
The Danish-born Sluizer is best known for 1988's Spoorloos, which was remade as Jeff Bridges vehicle The Vanishing in 1993.
