Both Scott and the studio Fox are "pushing ahead with a follow-up" and talking to new writers in case Prometheus's co-writer Damon Lindelof doesn't return to the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fassbender and Rapace are signed up for the project, which would likely be released in 2014 or 2015.

"Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," said Fox president of production Emma Watts.

Scott recently revealed that a potential title for the sequel could be Paradise.

"From the very beginning, I was working from a premise that lent itself to a sequel," he has previously said.

A special DVD and Blu-ray boxset titled Evolution: From Alien to Prometheus will be released on October 3.
