Peter Sarsgard is already attached to star as the character who masterminds the plot, while Eisenberg would play the ringleader, and Fanning a wealthy young girl who provides the financial backing for the plan.

Paul Dano was previously attached to play Eisenberg's potential role, while Eisenberg's The Social Network co-star Rooney Mara was reportedly also approached for Fanning's role.

Eisenberg stars in Woody Allen's latest film To Rome With Love, which has already been released in the US and will arrive in UK cinemas on September 14.

Fanning will next be seen opposite Jeremy Irvine in bittersweet romance Now Is Good, which will be released in the UK on September 21.
