'Before Sunset' sequel will not shoot this summer, says Julie Delpy

By
Julie Delpy has confirmed that the planned sequel to Before Sunset will not shoot this summer.

It was reported earlier this year that the third film, following 1995's Before Sunrise and 2004's Before Sunset, had been written and would be shot this summer, with Delpy and Ethan Hawke set to reprise their roles as star-crossed lovers Jesse and Celine.

Delpy, who co-wrote Before Sunset alongside writer-director Richard Linklater, told Indiewire that the currently untitled third film is unlikely to be ready until "sometime in the next year, year and a half".

"A lot of it will be Richard's decision," she explained. "I'm just one of the people involved."

She went on to offer some details about the film's plot, which will pick up around a decade after Before Sunset – which, in turn, took place over the same length of time after Before Sunrise.

"It's Jesse and Celine nine, ten years later," Delpy explained, adding that the film will be "rooted in the technology of now".

"It would be weird not to include [modern technology]. They haven't emailed before, but perhaps if they had, they would have been together and fallen apart by now."
