Robin Wright is in talks to star in A Most Wanted Man.

Variety reports that the adaptation of John le Carre's novel will be directed by Anton Corbijn, who helmed 2010 George Clooney thriller The American, and has been written by Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness).

The novel centres on a young, half-starved ex-prisoner who is smuggled illegally into Hamburg, and on his idealistic young lawyer who is determined to save him from deportation.

Last year's adaptation of le Carre's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which was helmed by Tomas Alfredson, was a critical and commercial success, topping the UK box office for three weeks and receiving several BAFTA and Academy Award nominations.

The potential for a sequel to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, based on le Carre's following two novels The Honourable Schoolboy and Smiley's People, has been widely discussed, with star Gary Oldman confirming that it is a possibility.
