The film has done extremely well at awards ceremonies throughout the year, picking up Best British Film at the main Baftas and Best Animated Film at the Oscars.
According to the BBC, creator Nick Park said that part of the attraction with the characters was that they appealed both to children and adults.
He said, "I think humour's always a really universal thing. It seems to appeal across the board.
"I know it's kind of a cliche, but I just make films for myself and the whole team. Whatever makes us laugh...goes into them."
