Rob Liefeld's Bloodstrike has been secured for a movie adaptation.

Adi Shankar's production company 1984 Private Defence Contractors has acquired the rights for an adaptation, reports Variety.

The series centres around a covert US task force comprised of dead agents resurrected with vampire blood.

The first run began in 1993 and lasted for 25 issues, but was recently revived.

Liefeld has said that his forthcoming work on Bloodstrike will mark the beginning of his focus on creator-owned, "more adult" comics work.

Shankar, Liefeld and the writer/artist's manager Brooklyn Weaver will produce the film adaptation.

Dutch Southern was recently hired to write an all-female take on The Expendables for 1984.
