Allen began his career with the Harry Truman administration in 1952, and ended it in 1986 under Ronald Reagan.

John Cusack, David Oyelowo, Liam Neeson, Liev Schreiber, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda and Robin Williams are also among the film's ensemble cast.

Matthew McConaughey was originally attached to play John F Kennedy alongside Minka Kelly's Jackie, but pulled out earlier this summer and was replaced by James Marsden.

Daniels co-wrote the script with Game Change scribe Danny Strong.

The Butler is set for release in 2013, while Daniels's controversial Cannes contender The Paperboy will hit US cinemas on October 5.
