The commercials director will lead a big-screen remake of the David Cronenberg classic for Universal Pictures, reports Deadline.
The original movie starred James Woods as the CEO of a small cable company who begins pirating a mysterious, snuff-like show called Videodrome.
The bizarre show begins to affect him with strange visions and mutations.
Announced as early as 2009, the remake is being scripted by Ehren Kruger, who will reportedly update the original premise as a tale of futuristic nano-technology.
Berg was awarded the Film Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival for his Philips Carousel advert in 2009.
Videodrome will be the latest of a series of cult 1980s remakes, including RoboCop and the newly debuted Total Recall.
