The Master has received its final trailer.
The video shows Joaquin Phoenix's character seducing two women and later resorting to violence.
Philip Seymour Hoffman's character gives a voiceover throughout on his beliefs about mankind. At one point, he is shown being restrained by another man, shouting: "It'll be okay! Please don't hurt him!"
The Paul Thomas Anderson-directed film stars Hoffman as charismatic cult leader Lancaster Dodd, who rises to prominence after World War II.
Freddie Quell (Phoenix) joins him as his right hand man, but later begins to question the methods and motives of the group.
Amy Adams also stars in the movie.
Hoffman has said that the film is not intended to be about the Church of Scientology.
The Master will debut on September 21 in the US and November 9 in the UK.
