Efron will star in the upcoming romantic comedy about three New York friends who make a pact to stay single just as they each start to fall in love, reports Deadline.
Are We Officially Dating? is written and directed by Tom Gormican, with production kicking off in Manhattan this autumn.
Efron previously starred in The Lorax and The Lucky One and will soon be seen in Liberal Arts and The Paperboy.
The Paperboy, also starring Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack, follows a reporter who travels back to his Florida hometown to investigate a case involving a death row inmate.
The Lee Daniels-directed film has attracted headlines due to a controversial scene in which Nicole Kidman urinates on Efron after he is attacked by a jellyfish.
The Paperboy will have a limited US release on October 5 with no UK release yet set, while Liberal Arts will be opened in limited theatres on September 14 in the US and has a wide release on October 5 in the UK.
