The singer and actress won a part, based on soul singer Diana Ross, in a new film inspired by the band - but only after a make-or-break session with its director.
"I was terrified, which worked out great because I was supposed to be 16," she said, explaining she is obsessed with the songstress. "My whole trailer is covered in her pictures."
Bill Condon told the Daily Mail it was only her performance that convinced him to recruit Beyonce. "I looked at everything she'd done on film, and I still didn't have the answer about whether she could do it or not," he explained. "Because what no-one wanted was a Beyoncè Ross."
