Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie made $65.1m from 332 IMAX screens in the US and $37.3m from 225 IMAX screens in other territories.
The Dark Knight Rises became only the second IMAX release to hit the milestone following a successful launch in China. Avatar is the only other film to have achieved the feat.
The news follows reports that the blockbuster has crossed the $1 billion mark for worldwide earnings, making it only the 13th film in history to do so.
Its predecessor The Dark Knight also reached the milestone, earning $533m (£335.9m) domestically and $1.0003bn (£632m) worldwide in 2008.
Analysts believe that The Dark Knight Rises may have taken in less money in North America due to the shooting tragedy during a midnight screening of the movie in Aurora, Colorado.
