A sequel to Safe House is in development, reports have suggested.

Universal Pictures has started work on a follow-up to the Denzel Washington thriller, and has hired original writer David Guggenheim to work on the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

'Safe House' still

Safe House starred Washington as former CIA agent Tobin Frost. Leading a life of crime, he is attacked and sent to a CIA safe house in Cape Town run by Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds).

It is not yet known whether the second movie will take the form of a prequel or sequel to the original, although it is thought that Reynolds is likely to star in a second movie whatever form it takes.

Safe House has grossed $126 million (£79.2 million) at US cinemas and $202 million (£127 million) worldwide since its release earlier this year.
