The horror franchise stars Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky, a doll possessed by the spirit of an insane serial killer.
Coming Soon has revealed that the film began principal photography in Winnipeg today, with the returning Dourif accompanied in the film by daughter Fiona Dourif (The Master, True Blood, Deadwood), Danielle Bisutti (Get Smart, CSI: Miami) and Brennan Elliott (Double Jeopardy).
The film is to be written and directed by Don Mancini, who has written or co-written every entry in the series so far, as well as directing Seed of Chucky.
It will see two sisters butting heads while settling their mother's estate after a gruesome suicide, only for their conflict to be interrupted by a string of gruesome murders, that happen to coincide with the sudden and mysterious arrival of Chucky in the mail.
After recent entries in the series adopted a more light-hearted tone, Curse of Chucky is said to mark the return of the series to straight horror.
A reboot of the original Child's Play was announced last year, and is currently in development with a script also written by Mancini.
