'Bad Santa' is the best Father Christmas
Published Thursday, Dec 7 2006, 13:56 GMT | By Ben Rawson-Jones
Billy Bob Thornton's foul-mouthed portrayal of Santa Claus has been voted the best screen depiction of Father Christmas in a survey.
The Hotdog magazine poll saw Thornton's Bad Santa overcome a challenge from Edmund Gwenn's role as Kris Kringle in the 1947 Miracle on 34th Street.
An animated version of the North Pole chimney-dweller comes in third place, as the Santa from the five minute South Park short entitled A Spirit of Christmas.
A spokesman for Hotdog magazine was full of praise for the victor: "Billy Bob Thornton's Santa is one of the most entertaining you're likely to encounter. Instead of spreading good cheer, he robs department stores."
