Producer Jon Landau has said that the director intends to follow-up his work on Avatar with the long-teased manga adaptation.
"We'll focus on Avatar for the next four or five years," Landau told MovieZine. "Hopefully right after that.
"I am confident you will get to see Battle Angel. It's one of my favourite stories. I think it is an incredible story, a journey of self-discovery of a young woman.
"It is a movie that begs the question: 'What does it mean to be human? Are you human if you have a heart, are you human if you have a mind, are you human if you have a soul?' And I look forward to bringing that film to audiences."
Battle Angel centres around an amnesiac cyborg who is found on a trash heap in the 26th century, and her attempts to recover her memories.
Cameron has previously said that he is only interested in making Avatar films, with two sequels in the works and a potential prequel.
