The film, directed by Jose Padilha, is a remake of the 1987 sci-fi action movie about a cyborg law-enforcer who is forced to battle against both violent street crime and boardroom corruption.
The pictures, revealed by Coming Soon, show a complete redesign of the suit, which is both slimmer than the 1987 design and jet black in colour, as opposed to the silver chrome finish of the original.
The shots of Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) in the suit were taken on set in Toronto, where the movie is currently filming for an August 2013 release.
Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K Williams and Michael Keaton also feature in the remake. Keaton plays a villainous role that was rumoured to have originally been offered to Hugh Laurie.
Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles recently told a South American film magazine that Padilha was going through 'hell' on the remake, claiming that "for every ten ideas [Jose] has, nine are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight [for]".
