Sam Raimi is to produce a new big screen adaptation of The Shadow after Columbia Pictures bought the rights to the heroic character.
"I've been a passionate Shadow fan ever since I was a kid and have long dreamed of bringing this character to the screen," Raimi told the Hollywood Reporter. However, despite helming both the Evil Dead and Spiderman franchises, Raimi is reportedly not taking on directorial duties.
The character of The Shadow, who has the power to cloud the minds of his adversaries, originated on a radio show in 1931 and was created by Walter B Gibson. In 1994, Highlander director Russell Mulcahy attempted a cinematic version starring Alec Baldwin, but the movie was a box-office disappointment.
