The Dexter star revealed some additional plot details from the film and shed light on her character in a recent interview.
Garcia said she portrays a scientist named Kim, who helps Gary Oldman's character "bring RoboCop to life", adding that she had to attend dozens of tech talks as research for the role.
She told the Chicago Tribune: "Almost all my scenes are with Gary Oldman. It's a dream come true. I play Kim. She's a scientist and her and Gary Oldman help bring RoboCop to life.
"She has a Ph.D from MIT and is at the forefront of robotic chemistry and physics. This takes place in 2028. She's a prodigy handpicked by Gary Oldman's character to work on this first of its kind experiment.
"I've watched more tech talks than I ever have in my life. I've learned so much about the brain. The technical things this girl has to say, I want to make sure I understand what each and everything is. She might be a little bit of a punk too."
RoboCop, which stars Joel Kinnaman as the cyborg law enforcer, arrives in cinemas in August 2013.
