"I'm really good friends with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and I did ask if I could be Moneypenny," he is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"I said 'If M is a woman, why can't Moneypenny be a man and have a crush on Bond?' But she just laughed and not in a good way!"

Walliams added that he visited the set of Skyfall with wife Lara Stone, meeting its leading star Daniel Craig.

"Bond films are only as good as the villain. Javier Bardem is the villain in Skyfall so I'm assuming it's going to be fantastic.

"I've seen bits of it and as Barbara is a friend I keep trying to find out more."

Benedict Cumberbatch has recently been tipped as the next Bond villain.

Skyfall will be released on October 26 in the UK and November 9 in the US.
