Andrew Garfield, Marc Webb to return for 'Amazing Spider-Man' sequel

By
Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb have signed up for the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

Garfield will reprise his role as Peter Parker with Webb returning to direct the new instalment. Emma Stone is also said to be in talks to play Gwen Stacy again.

One of the world's most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in 'The Amazing Spider-Man'.

Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad said in a statement: "We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker.

"We can't wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide."

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner are writing the sequel, based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, who penned the first instalment to the rebooted franchise.

It will begin production in early 2013 for a May 2, 2014 release in 3D.

In August, The Amazing Spider-Man was named the highest-grossing reboot of all time, taking in $700 million (£442m) worldwide.
