Little House on the Prairie will become a feature film with Your Highness director David Gordon Green attached to make the project.

Sony Pictures has entered negotiations to turn Laura Ingalls Wilder's children's books series - which inspired NBC's hit TV series - into a movie with Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame) writing the screenplay.

Scott Rudin (The Social Network) and Trip Friendly will produce the movie, reports Deadline.

Wilder's semi-autobiographical Prairie novels were written between 1932 and 1943 and centred on an American family living on a farm in the late 19th century.

The subsequent TV series starred Michael Landon as Charles Ingalls, Karen Grassle as Caroline and Melissa Sue Anderson and Melissa Gilbert as Mary and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Little House on the Prairie has also been used as the basis for an animated series, a pair of made-for-TV movies and a six-episode ABC miniseries, broadcast in 2005.

Green recently helmed comedy The Sitter and is working on drama Joe with Nicolas Cage.
